Accident Repair and Bodyshops

Accident Repair and Bodyshops Guide

Even with the most highly skilled drivers, accidents can happen: and for a business that is reliant on a fleet of vehicles to keep its operations running smoothly, knowing there is a reliable accident repair centre waiting to attend to your vehicles can offer significant peace of mind.

Here we take a look at accident repair centres and bodyshops in the UK: including what to look for when choosing the right accident repair company for you.

What are accident repair companies and bodyshops?

An accident repair company should be able to respond to both major and minor damage and offer an array of services to amend the problem. Typically, accident repair shops can deal with all aspects of servicing; as well as paintwork issues; shot blasting; chassis realignment; and more. Many accident repair centres will only deal with cars: however, others may also be willing to work on seriously damaged trailers, tractors and trucks.

Bodyshops generally deal with more minor repairs such as dents and paintwork scratches. However, others may offer more complete services including cabin refits.

What should you look for when choosing an accident repair centre?

There are a number of considerations when choosing an accident repair centre that’s right for your business:

- Location: Ideally you want a bodyshop that is within a reasonable distance of your business so you can get to the site quickly should there be any issues to resolve.

- Approval: Many car insurance companies have a list of approved accident repair companies: using a different bodyshop could affect your insurance claim. Also bear in mind that most carmakers will recommend that you go to an official dealership for accident repair needs: they may be more experienced in dealing with a particular model and have genuine parts on hand.

- Genuine parts: Will the accident repair company use genuine parts to return your vehicle to its pre-accident condition?

- Collection/delivery: If your car is not roadworthy following an accident it’s important to look for an accident repair company that will collect the vehicle and deliver it when it has been repaired.

- Regular contact: Will the accident repair company present you with a full invoice before carrying out repairs? Will it contact you during the repairs process should there be any issue that was not originally anticipated? Will there be one person available to speak to you about any enquiries or will you have to deal with different people every time?

- Smart repairs: Is the bodyshop able to carry out smart repairs: these are making minor adjustments and fixes to a vehicle without replacing an entire part. This can be cost effective when dealing with minor damage such as to a bumper, body panel or paintwork.

- Extras: Does the bodyshop offer any additional extras as part of the service? For example, many bodyshops will now carry out a full valet on a vehicle before returning it to you.

Will the accident repair company offer any guarantees?

Perhaps one of the most important elements of accident repair is ensuring that the parts used will last for the long term. Many bodyshops will offer guarantees on the parts they replace for up to five years.

However, there may be additional guarantees available that could offer further peace of mind. For example, many car manufacturer dealership accident centres will offer long-term collision repair warranties and a repair compliance certificate to help safeguard the future of the vehicle.

In addition, look for accident repair centres that will offer a guaranteed completion time so you know exactly when your vehicles will be back on the road; and make sure that invoices will not exceed estimates without being agreed beforehand.
