www.askmid.com enables you to make enquiries of the Motor Insurance Database (MID). It accesses the MID in real time. This is the same MID which the police access - but the police receive more detailed information from the database. askMID currently offers two services: own vehicle (free of charge) and the other vehicle (small charge). Own vehicle - enables you to check that the vehicle you intend to drive is currently on the database. Now drivers are able to obtain the name and contact details of the insurer of any vehicle with which they have been involved in an accident and want to confirm that the other vehicle appears on the Motor Insurance Database. The date of the accident and the registration details of the other vehicle are required to search askMID. If the vehicle appears on the MID, you will get the policy number, insurer of the other vehicle and a claims contact number to help you progress a claim with the insurer.
