CATERHAM consumer reviews

Anton, Surrey on the Caterham Caterham Super 7

I’ve had two in the last 5 years, both SVs, one a 1.6K and the current one a 140hp 1.8K. This is a surprisingly economical road car - 40+ mpg is average. It’s comfortable with wrap-around cloth or leather seats that absorb the jolts our rubbish roads cause through the hard suspension, and the much maligned roof will take pretty well everything English weather can throw at it (example - four hours of the heaviest rain I’ve ever seen returning from a west country holiday last year). But buy a half-roof and wind baffle from Softbits for Sevens and you’ve got the best of both worlds. I’ve used mine as an everyday car since I bought them and found them surprisingly practical and able to carry far more in the boot and behind the seats than any reviews have ever let on: we’ve been able to go on a fortnight’s holiday with the addition of a small case fitted to the back of the spare wheel.

Have wanted one since I was 8 years old. Now, at 57 I finally have one. Bought it in May ’09 and have had more fun in a car than I thought possible. Driving it is only one part of the fun though. Modifying, fettling and servicing are great entertainment too and I spend many a happy hour in my garage between blats. Complete strangers stop and want to know all about it. Everyone wants to be taken for a drive (apart from the timid/jealous ones) and she is a joy to own. As for the driving, well I can only say that I’m surprised it’s legal. Wow! Grin, grin grin...

I’ve had mine over 20 years. I can’t imagine a time when I would be without it. It is fast bordering on the brutal, noisy, handles like a dream, cheap to insure, great club and is faster than most cars up to 100mph. Really it’s a car for the purist as there are few mod cons, mine doesn’t even have carpets.

I had a Caterham Superlight; it was a right vicious little bastard. It was a shame when i sold it, I miss her.

Okay, so it’s a Big Boys Toy but for sheer fun on the open road you just can’t beat it. Love it!!
