Ryder wins £ multi-million City Link contract
Under a multi-million pound contract hire deal, Ryder is supplying 26 DAF CF430 tractor units and 102 13.6 metre double deck trailers to City Link, the UK’s fastest growing parcel network.
The tractor units and double deck trailers are based out of City Link’s central sorting hubs in Wednesbury and Coventry and are utilised for the critical time-sensitive inbound and outbound trunking operations throughout the City Link UK delivery network.
“We spent nine months taking a consultative approach to City Link’s requirements before constructing a solution that combined the best support infrastructure network available with the perfect specification of vehicles,” comments Peter Backhouse, vice president and managing director of Ryder Europe. “We already have customers in different sectors, such as prison transport, where vehicles operate on crucial timesensitive basis, so we used our experience in these areas and our substantial 24/7 national support resources to ensure that City Link’s trunkers are on time, every time.
“We are very excited to be working with City Link again and look forward to helping City Link develop its future growth plans. We originally supplied delivery vehicles to City Link in the early 1970s, shortly after Ryder entered the UK market, so it’s great to renew our partnership with the company again. Both companies have grown and diversified in recent years and we look forward to a long and fruitful partnership.”
“City Link operates a strict policy of dual sourcing,” comments Mo Kafu, operations director, City Link. “We had previously sourced trunkers from both Fraikin and Lex. However, when Fraikin acquired Lex we sought another supplier and chose Ryder based on our previous good experience of working with the company.”
