Ryder places £10.6 million rental order
Ryder has today revealed plans to spend £10.6 million on new rental vehicles for delivery during 2008.
The order for a total of 333 vehicles will comprise exclusively of HGVs ranging from 7.5 ton to 18 ton rigids, as well as 40 ton and 44 ton tractor units. All vehicles will be to Euro 5 SCR specification and, in line with Ryder’s policy of dual-sourcing, the new vehicles will comprise DAF LF and CF models, as well as Mercedes-Benz Axor rigids.
Included in the order are 196 DAF LF45-160 7.5 tonners specified to SCR Enhanced Environmentally friendly Vehicle (EEV) standards. These EEV trucks will deliver increased levels of fuel efficiency, whilst emitting half the particulate levels of standard Euro 5 specification trucks, and having an 87% lower NOX level than required to meet LEZ standards. Effectively meeting the standards of Euro 5½ the EEV vehicles are the 7.5 tonners of tomorrow and are the most
environmentally friendly vehicles in their class.
“More than 140 of the new trucks will carry DAF bodywork,” comments David Hunt, managing director, Ryder Ltd. “This will provide us with quicker and more-reliable lead times and, as a onestop shop ourselves, we appreciate the improved and consistent quality benefits these ‘whole vehicles’ will provide.
“We’ve seen a significant upturn in our truck rental business during the past 18 months and this new order enables us to continue to support customer preferences, whilst reflecting the significant increase in demand for rental periods of 6-12months and longer.
“We’ve been established in the UK marketplace for 37 years and have been constantly responding to the needs of a changing market. Ryder has never been a company that stands still and we are always moving forward in order to remain innovative and competitive. The company has taken great strides forward in the last three years and together with the hundreds of new vehicles entering the rental fleet next year we will be perfectly placed to exceed customer demands.”
