At the recent ACFO conference, members have been warned that driver training without implementing systematic changes to a business’s safety policy have only a short term impact. This was according to motoring safety expert Tim Marsh.
Marsh, a qualified psychologist and safety expert stated further, “Even the best safety training speeches only had an impact for two weeks, after which time drivers returned to their normal habits.”
There are many driver-training programmes to help business drivers get the most from their cars and stay safe while on the road.
One of the most noteworthy organisations are RoSPA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.
They have just introduced new courses for 2008, which may be of use to you and your company. They include Eco Driving and Fuel Efficient Driving, Driver Post Accident Course, RoSPA Theory Workshop, Banksman Train the Trainer, CPC National Road Haulage and CPC National Passenger Transport.
RoSPA has been at the forefront of promoting road safety in this country and abroad since its inception in 1917.
Over the years RoSPA have been a forceful campaigner for change on key issues affecting drivers, pedestrians and other road users. But it has also built an unrivalled reputation as an innovative provider of risk management and fleet safety solutions including driver and rider related training.
RoSPA’s highly successful Managing Occupational Road Risk (MORR) campaign has been widely taken up and many organisations now employ its underlying principles as the basis for their fleet safety policies.
