For Europe’s leading fleet and fuel management company four wheeled modes of transport are the norm, but for National Bike Week, one of the UK’s biggest cycling events, Swindon based company Arval is getting excited about bikes.
Arval’s week of events will kick off with the Birmingham to Swindon cycle. On Monday 16th June a small group of Arval’s keenest cyclists will set off from the companies Birmingham offices at around 6am to arrive at the Swindon head office, a total of 75 miles, at around 4pm the same day.
While not everyone is confident enough to take part in the road cycle, teams of staff will be given the chance to replicate the ride through the virtual cycle team challenge. Teams of 8 employees will race on static exercise bikes at Arval’s offices. The teams will compete to cover a 75 mile distance in the fastest time.
Throughout the week Arval will be encouraging staff to get on their bikes, rewarding employees that ride to work with free drinks and snacks each day and also running a bike awareness day on the 17th June full of displays, advice and even a bike assault course for staff to negotiate.
Bike Week provides an annual opportunity to promote cycling as a source of fitness and fun, demonstrating the social, health, and environmental benefits of cycling. The week aims to get bums on saddles up and down the country with this year the event running from 15th to 21st June.
Tracey Young, Fleet Manager at Arval comments:
“We encourage our staff to cycle all year round and already have a keen community of cyclists but we are keen to up the anti for Bike Week. We are working hard to get as many staff as possible involved in our activities at both our Swindon and Birmingham offices.”
“Cycling is good for the environment and good for your health so we hope that we will convert a few staff that wouldn’t normally cycle to consider getting on a bike more often, even after this week’s initiative.”
