RAC wins Mercedes-Benz contract
The RAC has won a three-year contract to supply training to technicians for Mercedes-Benz UK. The deal will see RAC supply eight trainers and a line manager who will be based at and deliver training programmes from the manufacturer’s UK headquarters in Milton Keynes.
The RAC trainers will receive tuition at the manufacturer’s world headquarters in Germany and will then deliver face-to-face training to the technicians under Mercedes-Benz guidelines, each conducting 150 days of training a year. They will be supported by four course developers and three field-based training mentors who work for Mercedes-Benz.
According to Mercedes, the initiative demonstrates an innovative approach to after sales service training to ensure that the manufacturer’s dealer network service quality levels remain consistent and dynamic.
Nick Thompson, commercial training manager for RAC, says: “RAC has been working closely with Mercedes-Benz for over 10 years and has built a reputation based on excellence and trust. RAC recognises that it’s important to continuously improve and monitor standards of servicing and repair within the motor industry. The deal represents a fantastic win for our technical training business and underlines the quality of RAC’s offering to the premium motor manufacturer market.”
Tony Hetherington, technical training manager with Mercedes-Benz, comments: “Our new strategy of field mentors to identify training requirements coupled with course developers who can design training solutions to meet specific requirements – needs a trusted partner to deliver the end product. RAC has proven themselves to be that partner through our current contract, whereby two of the technical training team are already RAC employees and we are very pleased to extend that relationship in the new structure.”
