If the recent surge in members (25,000 in June and July alone) wasn’t enough to convince you, the increasingly important role of car-sharing in the UK has now been highlighted by liftshare’s founder meeting the Queen and the Prime Minister in the space of one week.
Having received the Queen’s Award for innovation in April, Ali Clabburn went to Buckingham Palace to meet Her Majesty in late July. Afterwards he chatted with other winners and various members of the Royal Family. (True to form, he also discussed the possibility of setting up a car-share scheme for Buckingham Palace staff with its head of finance!)
A few days later, Ali was back in central London at a high-profile ceremony for the first ever UK Catalyst Awards. liftshare won the ‘David and Goliath’ category (see previous news story) and Gordon Brown spoke in praise of the winning social enterprises which were having such a positive impact on society.
