THUS to deliver digital broadcast capability for Global Traffic Network
THUS will aid Global Traffic Network to keep commuters moving by delivering traffic information into the digital era by utilising an MPLS WAN.
The initial six site Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network will carry both data and broadcast traffic to enable Global Traffic Management to simultaneously manage the information gathering and corporate aspects of the business, as well as to deliver high quality broadcast capability over THUS’s market leading next-generation network (NGN). The combined network solution from THUS will broadcast traffic in near real time, over its industry leading NGN delivering the functionality, reliability and resilience crucial to an organisation broadcasting every minute of every day, as well as providing the scalability necessary to meet the needs of this growing organisation.
Broadcasting live 24 hours a day from the Highways Agency’s National Traffic Control Centre in Birmingham, Global Traffic Network will deliver information on the traffic conditions on motorways and major A roads across England as well as highlighting any emergency incidents or roadworks. Traffic Radio will supply people with the information they need to make choices about their journeys and offer alternatives if incidents happen or conditions change, ultimately making commuting more efficient. It will be accessed by those with DAB radios in their cars, mobile internet access or on their PCs in advance of their journey.
