Ongoing Schemes

M20 Junctions 3 to 4 / M26 Junction 2A
Work starts on a major lighting scheme near Wrotham in Kent on Saturday 13 September and is expected to be completed by Christmas 2008. During the work, there will be 3 narrow lanes in operation and there will also be lane closures on the M20 and the M26 during the night.
A 50 mph speed limit will be put in place to ensure the ongoing safety of road users and the workforce.

A316 Country Way
Transport for London are carrying out safety improvement work and bridge work on the A316 Country Way between the M3 junction 1 (Sunbury Cross) and Apex Corner viaduct. The highway element of the scheme is due for completion at the end of the year, with overall completion due in spring 2009.

Every effort will be made to keep delays to the minimum, and there will be at least two lanes open in both directions for traffic between the hours of 6.00am and 8.30pm each day. There will also be some night time working, but there will always be one lane open in each direction.

M4 Junctions 1 to 3 (both directions)
Work to replace the bridge deck expansion joints on the M4 elevated section has been suspended until repairs have been made to the bridge support pillars. During the day, one lane in each direction will be closed on the A4 to allow access to the supports and overnight (21.30pm to 5.30am) there will only be one lane open in each direction. The work will continue until December 2008 and details of these closures will be advertised at the roadside, at http://www.highways.gov.uk and a timetable of closures is available on request.

M25 Junction 1 to 3 widening
Much of the widening work started here in May 2007, is complete. There remains a 2km stretch at the junction which is subject to various off peak lane closures, narrow lane running and a 50mph speed limit, with a free recovery service in place. There will also be overnight signed diversions on occasions until December 2008.

A 50mph speed restriction for this 2km enforced by average speed cameras will remain in place to ensure the ongoing safety of road users and the workforce.

M1 Junction 6a to 8
Widening works started here in March 2006, and is expected to be complete in December 2008. There will be various off peak lane closures, narrow lane running and a 50mph speed limit. There will also be overnight signed diversions on occasions. A free recovery service is provided, and drivers are asked in the event of a breakdown to remain with their vehicles and await the arrival of the recovery vehicle.

M1 Junctions 1 to 4
Work to replace the overhead gantries that have reached the end of their life and provide better information for road users by using new electronic signs started here in January 2008 and is expected to be complete in March 2009. Traffic lanes will be reduced in width to provide sufficient working space and a 50mph speed limit will be in force for the safety of road users. Occasional overnight lane closures and carriageway closures will also be required.

A40 Denham Viaduct, Uxbridge
Work started here in March for seven months to replace the parapets and strengthen the bridge deck of this viaduct. During the work, three narrow lanes will be maintained in each direction to keep traffic flowing smoothly, and a 40 mph speed limit will be in force for the safety of the travelling public and of the workforce.
