South East – Weekly summary of roadworks in Kent and Sussex – 01/10/2008

A2 Ebbsfleet Weekend Closure of coastbound carriageway

There will be a closure of the coastbound carriageway at Ebbsfleet from

9pm on Friday 3 October until 5am Monday 6 October

During the weekend closures traffic will be diverted via the exit slip road to Ebbsfleet Eastern Roundabout to rejoin the coastbound carriageway at the entry slip.

The works are to resurface and waterproof the road to prevent delays through unplanned work in the future. The closure will be fully signed in advance.

A27 Tangmere lining works

There will be a daytime (10am – 4pm) eastbound lane closure on the A27 at Tangmere on Thursday 2 October. The works are to renew white lining on the road. The lane closure will be fully signed in advance.

M20 Signing works

On Thursday 2 and Friday 3 October there will be a daytime (9.30am to 4.30pm) hardshoulder closure of the coastbound carriageway at junction 7.
The works are to install signs at the side of the carriageway. The hardshoulder closure will be fully signed in advance.

A2 Thannington on slip road resurfacing

There will an overnight (8pm – 6am) lane one closure with a 50mph speed limit on the coastbound carriageway of the A2 at Thannington near Canterbury from Thursday 2 October to Saturday 11 October. On the same times and dates there will be a temporary closure of the entry slip road to the A2. The works are to resurface the road and renew road markings. The lane closure and slip road closure will be fully signed in advance with a fully signed diversion route.

A2 Bonny Bush resurfacing

There will be an overnight (8pm – 6am) lane one closure with a 50mph speed limit on the Londonbound carriageway of the A2 at Bonny Bush near Canterbury from Tuesday 30 September to Friday 3 October. On the same times and dates there will be a temporary closure of the exit slip road for Bonny Bush. The works are to resurface the road and renew road markings. The lane closure and slip road closure will be fully signed in advance with a fully signed diversion route.

M2 Junction 5 entry slip

There will be an overnight (8pm – 6am) closure of the coastbound entry slip from Stockbury Roundabout to the M2 junction 5 from Monday 29 September to Wednesday 1 October. The works are to resurface the road. The slip road closure will be signed in advance with a fully signed diversion route.

A2 Brenley Corner to Harbledown Street Light Replacement

There will be various overnight (8pm to 6am) lane closures on the Londonbound and coastbound carriageway from Monday 29 September to Friday 3 October between Brenley Corner and Harbledown near Canterbury. The works are to replace street lights. The lane closures will be fully signed in advance.

M2 Londonbound Sign works

There will be overnight (9pm – 5am) lane one closures on the coastbound carriageway between junctions 6 and 5 from Sunday 5 October to Wednesday 8 October. As well as the lane one closure there will also be an overnight rolling road block by the police on Monday 6 and Tuesday 6 October.
The works are to upgrade the existing signs on overhead gantries. The lane closure will be fully signed in advance.

A27 Southwick Tunnel Closure

There will be a full overnight (8pm – 6am) closure of the tunnel on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 October for two nights only. The works are to carry out routine maintenance. The tunnel closure will be fully signed in advance and will have a fully signed diversion route.

A21 Flimwell Crossroads to Kent Boundary Resurfacing

There will be an overnight (8pm – 6am) single lane closure of either the northbound or southbound carriageway at any one time from Wednesday 8 October to Friday 10 October and again on Monday 13 October.
There will be a 40mph speed limit in place on approach to the works with traffic controlled by two way traffic lights and escorted past the works in convoy at 10mph. The works are to resurface the road and replace the road markings. The lane closures and speed limit will be fully signed in advance.

Ongoing works:

A2 Bean to Cobham widening works (Major Project)

Works continue to widen the A2 to four lanes with hard shoulders in each direction between Bean to Cobham.
On the Londonbound carriageway there continues to be three narrow running lanes from Cobham junction to Pepperhill during the daytime with various lane closures at night between 8pm and 5am.
On the coastbound carriageway there continues to be three narrow running lanes from the Ebbsfleet exit slip road to the Cobham exit slip road with various lane closures at night between 8pm and 5am.

A21 Flimwell to Hurst Green Safety Improvements

Works started on Monday 15 September to revise the road markings and replace existing road signs on the A21 London Road between Flimwell and Hurst Green in East Sussex. There will be temporary overnight (8pm to 6am) lane closures at various phases of the works with traffic being controlled by convoy vehicle at 10 mph through the works site.

A20 White Horse Hill Bridge works

Works continue to refurbish White Horse Hill overbridge to protect it from corrosion. Sections of the A20 between the A259 and the A260 will be closed overnight (8pm to 6am) from Monday 29 September to Thursday 2 October while work on the bridge and in the tunnel is carried out concurrently.
A fully signed diversion route will be in place.

M20 junction 11 – 12 widening works

Works continue to widen sections of the M20 between junctions 11 and 12 as well as entry slip roads at junction 11, junction 11a, and junction 12. The works are being carried out 24/7 with at least two lanes running at all times and hardshoulder running where necessary. There will also be an overnight closure of the entry and exit slip roads at junction 11 and junction 12 on some dates.

A27 Arundel Bridge works

Works to refurbish Arundel Railway Bridge began on Friday 12 September with the work taking place throughout September and October 2008. The A27 over the railway bridge will be closed on the following weekend whilst works to the road surface and deck structure are carried out:

20.00 Friday 10 October until 06.00 Monday 13 October

This is the scheduled closure but is weather dependant. If works are unable to be completed during this weekend, two contingency dates will be used which will be as follows:

20.00 Friday 17 October until 06.00 Monday 20 October
20.00 Friday 31 October until 06.00 Monday 03 November

A259 Brenzett Roundabout to A259 jct with Camber Road Drainage Works

Works continue overnight to carry out drainage surveys on both sides of the carriageway from the A2070 Brenzett Roundabout to the junction with Camber Bend near Rye, East Sussex. There continues to be overnight single lane closures from 8pm to 6am, Monday to Friday along 300 metre sections of one carriageway. During this time traffic is controlled by two way temporary traffic lights.

M2 Bridge Strengthening works

Work continues to strengthen Ruins Barn Farm bridge and Selling Road bridge over the M2 at Sittingbourne and Faversham in Kent. To limit delays to road users, work will take place on both bridges at the same time, and will be completed in two phases. The first phase started on Monday 8 September for nine weeks. The hard shoulder on both sides of the road will be closed around each bridge, with two narrow lanes remaining. The second phase of the work will start on Tuesday 11 November and will last for six weeks. Lane 2 on both sides of the road around each bridge will be closed to traffic, which will run on two narrow lanes in lane 1 and on the hard shoulder. This temporary road layout will be put in place during various temporary overnight lane closures around both bridges between 8pm and 5am from Friday 7 November to Monday 10 November. For the safety of road users and road workers a fully signed 50mph speed limit will be in place around both bridges throughout the work.
