Arval get smart and reduces emissions
Arval’s Smart EV, is a car that’s designed to bring a breath of fresh air to the streets of Swindon. To support staff in reducing their environmental impact and showcase the Smart electric technology, Arval, Europe’s leading fleet management and fuel specialist now has its own electric Smart car which staff can use for local journeys.
The company employs 850 staff at its Windmill Hill offices in West Swindon. Although Arval already runs a free bus into town for staff at lunchtimes the new smart car offers some added flexibility and environmental benefits.
The advantages of the Smart EV are clear. It doesn’t produce any exhaust fumes, eliminating CO2 emissions. The engine is silent, it doesn’t need engine oil, road tax, and it isn’t subject to congestion charging. Plus with the recent increases we have seen in fuel prices it represents excellent value, with a full charge only costing around 85p, even at peak times.
The car is powered solely by electricity and is chargeable from any three-pin electricity socket. It will be on charge at the Arval offices so that staff can make use of it as and when they need to. The car certainly won’t be missed as it drives around town, wrapped in a striking ‘green’ design to convey Arval’s environmental message to other drivers and passers by.
Danny Clenaghan, Card Development Director at Arval said;
“It’s crucial that we are receptive to new technologies and new modes of travel. This is a zero emission vehicle which will save money and the environment so we are keen that as many staff as possible give it a try.”
The Smart stats:
- The Smart EV can achieve the equivalent of 300 mpg
- The EV can travel up to 72 miles between charges
- It typically takes around 8 hours to fully charge
- It includes a full complement of Mercedes-Benz safety features
- It has a top speed of 70 mph courtesy of a powerful Zytek electric motor
- It can achieve 0-30mph in an impressive 6.5 seconds
- At peak times, a full charge costs around 85p
