Weekly round up of road works in Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Bristol – 03/10/2008

M48 Severn Bridge closure

The M48 Severn Bridge will be closed in both directions from 21.30 hrs on Friday 3 October until 21.00 hrs on Sunday 5 October. The closure is to move gantries currently being used to install a dehumidification on the cables.

M5 J13 to J14 Gloucestershire – Coaley Cambridge Overbridge

Work to install concrete barriers to improve protection for the bridge piers will commence on 29 September for 4 weeks. Traffic Management on the M5 will involve 3 lanes narrow running on both the north and south bound carriageways with a 50mph speed restriction.

M5 Avonmouth Bridge

Major resurfacing and waterproofing work started on the southbound carriageway of the M5 Avonmouth Bridge overnight on 2 September and will continue until January.

During the work there will be narrow lanes and a 50 mph speed limit controlled by speed cameras. At times there will be a contraflow. Three lanes will remain open in each direction throughout the work.

A40 Over to Highnam (near Gloucester)

A 26-week scheme to reconstruct both carriageways and to build a new bus lane started in May. The scheme also includes renewing drainage, replacing lighting columns, new cabling and safety barriers.

A contraflow has been installed with one lane in each direction until completion of the work in November. Temporary traffic signals have been installed on Over roundabout to improve traffic flow onto the A417.

The programme of ongoing overnight works will continue next week with resurfacing operations at Over and Highnam roundabouts. Starting from Monday 6 October, temporary signals will be in place at the Over roundabout from 9pm to 6am. Once completed, work will move to Highnam roundabout. In total, there will be approximately seven nights work.
We would ask drivers to take special care while work is taking place at the roundabouts as normal priority may change. Please ensure that you follow any temporary signage and obey the traffic signals.

A4 Avonmouth – work on St Brendans and St Andrews roundabouts

Due to the continued development of Cabot Park Distribution Park, improvements to St Brendans and St Andrews roundabouts are being carried out.

The improvements include widening of the carriageway approaches to the two roundabouts to enable increased turning space for large goods vehicles, and the signalisation of the roundabouts to facilitate improved traffic flow.
Work will continue until mid October, during which time there will be 24-hour lane closures in place at various locations and a temporary limit of 30mph.

A419 Blunsdon near Swindon

There are narrow lanes and 40 mph speed restrictions on the A419 near Swindon as part of the construction of the Blunsdon Bypass. Northbound traffic is now using the new bypass while southbound traffic continues to use the existing A419 through Blunsdon.

Thamesdown Lane near its Junction with the A419 at Turnpike Roundabout will be reduced to one lane in each direction from Monday 6 to Friday 10 October as part of work to replace the roundabout.
