The Highways Agency will start work to replace bridge joints on the A38 Egginton Viaduct northbound carriageway, north of Burton on Trent on the Staffordshire / Derbyshire border on Saturday 18 October.
The work is expected to take two weeks to complete. In order to reduce delays to drivers, work will be carried out overnight when traffic flows are at their lowest. To carry out this work safely, the A38 northbound will be closed between the hours of 8pm and 6am Monday to Friday, with some overnight work at the weekends - including the instalation and removal of the traffic management. A 50mph speed restriction will be in place on the approach to the works during the overnight work period; at all other times the normal speed limit will apply.
Paul Davies, Highways Agency project sponsor, said:
“The bridge joints have reached the end of their serviceable life and need replacing in order to ensure the viaduct is well maintained and to prevent deterioration of the structure.
“An overnight diversion route will be well signed for northbound traffic via A5121 (at A38 Claymills), A511, and A50 to Toyota Island. We advise drivers to allow some extra time for their journeys as the diversion is approximately 12 miles.”
