Fleets choosing vehicles based on CO2 emissions

New research undertaken by a leading management team has revealed that rating will significantly affect the future buying choice of business car drivers. In an online survey of 1,074 drivers by the Leasedrive Velo Group, one of the largest independent privately-owned vehicle management groups in the UK, found that a staggering 87 per cent believed that CO2 would influence the choice of their next company car.  Furthermore, 64 per cent would be willing to pay £40 or more to offset their company car’s for a fixed annual fee.

Roddy Graham, commercial director at Group said: “Clearly, company car drivers are more aware than ever before of their green responsibilities and are not only willing to trade down next time to a company car with lower CO2 emissions but are also prepared to back this up by becoming carbon neutral drivers.  Nearly three-quarters stated that they would be willing to offset their company car’s carbon emissions for a fixed annual fee.”

Of the drivers surveyed, 76 per cent currently drive a diesel car, 23 per cent a petrol car and one per cent a hybrid.  Only one driver uses a bio-fuel car.  For their next company car, 68 per cent said they would stick with diesel, 19 per cent with petrol but ten per cent would choose a hybrid.  Two per cent would opt for a bio-fuel car and one per cent for an electric one.

In terms of how much a company car driver would be prepared to personally pay per year to offset their company car’s emissions, of the 71 per cent willing to do so, eight per cent said they would pay up to £10, 11 per cent up to £20, 14 per cent up to £30, four per cent up to £40, 40 per cent up to £50 and nearly a quarter over £50.

Besides Carbon:Manager™, allowing company car drivers to offset their CO2 emissions for as little as £3 per month to become CarbonNeutral drivers, the Leasedrive Velo Group now offers a new product EnviroDrive, a green company car salary sacrifice scheme offering cost saving and environmental benefits to both employer and employee.  A free five-point health check on employee car benefits with a specific focus on the environment is also available to employers.  In addition, company car drivers on the point of ordering their next company car can now quickly locate the latest offers for sub 120 g/km cars that fall into the ten per cent Benefit-in-Kind tax bracket and test drive the latest hybrid and low CO2 emission vehicles.  For really green conscious drivers, the group also highlights the environmental policies of all its preferred suppliers.  Lastly, Leasedrive Velo lists the actions that drivers can take to save fuel and money when behind the wheel.  Details on all the above can be found on the new dedicated GreenFleet section of Leasedrive Velo’s Drive:Manager website, accessible to company car drivers.

87% is a really impressive figure. It’s good news that company car divers are among the growing number of people who are choosing to drive cars with lower CO2 emissions.
