Highways Agency advises of abnormal load movement from Avonmouth to Didcot Power Station

An abnormal load (gas turbine) is due to be moved from Avonmouth Docks to Didcot Power Station in Oxfordshire. The journey is due to commence early on Sunday 14th December 2008.

The gas turbine will leave Avonmouth Docks at approximately 0500hrs and travel to Togg Hill, South Gloucestershire, arriving at approximately 1030hrs.

The next stage of the journey will commence from Togg Hill at 2200hrs on Monday 15th December 2008 arriving at M4, Membury Services at approximately 0400hrs.

The final leg of the journey will commence from M4, Membury Services at 2200hrs on Tuesday 16th December 2008 completing its journey at Didcot Power Station at approximately 0500hrs.

The load is being moved over three days in order to minimise the impact on other road users and ensure safe passage of the load.

The Highways Agency is warning of this load due to the substantial weight and size of the gas turbine. The load with the trailer weighs 474 tonnes while the total length of the load, including the tractors is 90.50 metres; the width is 5.50 metres and is 5.18 metres in height.

The route undertaken for this journey will be King Road Avenue, St Andrews Road, A4, M5, M4, M32, A4174, A420, A46, M4, A34, A4130.
