The Highways Agency is expected to start work on a £200,000 scheme to resurface the A38 southbound carriageway between A5121 at Branston and B5016 at Barton Turns, near Burton upon Trent on Tuesday 6 January 2009 approximately one week.
These essential resurfacing works are required to avoid the need for unplanned emergency repairs and possible disruption to drivers in the future.
To ensure we limit delays for drivers, all work will be done overnight between 8.00pm and 6.00am when traffic flows are lightest.
Charlotte Foster, Highways Agency project sponsor, said:
“The Highways Agency is committed to ensuring we limit delays when carrying out roadworks and improvements. The resurfacing work will ensure that the carriageway is maintained in good condition and will limit the need for us to carry out emergency repairs to the road surface in the future.”
For the work to be carried out safely the southbound carriageway will be closed from A5121 Branston to B5016 Barton Turn. Access to local residents will be maintained.
Cars and motorbikes will be diverted along the A5121 and the B5017 as far as Five Lanes End roundabout. Traffic will then be directed left to the B5016 at Barton Gate before turning left again onto the B5016 through Barton under Needwood village back to the A38. Diversion routes will be clearly signposted.
Long distance heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) are advised to take an alternative route to avoid the local village. It is suggested they use the A5121 northbound at Branston to A5189, follow the A5189 to A444 at Stapenhill then turn south onto the A444 to M42 J11. Join the M42 southbound and at J10, the A5 interchange, exit and follow the A5 westbound to the A38. Alternatively for HGV traffic travelling south on the A38, turn east onto the A50 to M1 J24 then proceed south on the M1, A42 and M42 to J10 and follow the A5 as above.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys while this work is carried out, as delays may occur.
