Safety improvement schemes on A45 in Warwickshire

The Highways Agency is planning a series of safety improvement schemes on the A45 between A45 / A46 Tollbar Island to the M45 at Thurlaston in Warwickshire during spring 2009. The schemes include street lighting improvements at Memorial Island (B4455 Fosse Way), Blue Boar Flyover (A4071) and Thurlaston Island (M45); and resurfacing work on the A45 from Memorial Island (B 4455) to Ryton on Dunsmore (A445).

In order to carry out this work during the spring, it will be necessary to carry out site clearance work from Monday 12 January. This work will include the removal of trees and shrubs, and this has to be done early in the year to avoid disturbing birds during the nesting season.

Highways Agency Project Sponsor, Charlotte Foster, said:

“The site clearance work along the A45 between Memorial Island and Blue Boar Flyover will begin on Monday 12 January. We need to do this work ahead of the improvement schemes so that we avoid disturbing nesting birds. Although we will be removing trees, many of which are dead, new trees will be planted along the route by March 2009.

“The work will be carried out during daytime off peak hours when the A45 will be reduced to a single lane for the safety of our workforce.”

The main work is scheduled to start in April 2009 and further details will be published in good time.
