M4 J14 to J15 major maintenence resurfacing scheme – Baydon, nr Swindon
Resurfacing and essential maintenance works on the eastbound carriageway of the M4, between junctions 14-15 at Baydon near Swindon, will start with drainage works on 12 January and continue through to April 2009.
This major work includes the reconstruction of the eastbound carriageway and resurfacing of all three lanes, using lower noise surfacing materials. The renewed carriageway should reduce delays for drivers by limiting the need for emergency closures for maintenance.
This initial work will require daytime off peak lane closures. Later in January three lanes will be open in each direction during daytime hours, using narrow lanes and contraflow management. There will be a 40mph speed limit in place throughout the works, enforced by safety cameras. Night time lane closures may be required during the works and will be carried out when traffic flows are at their lowest.
We have worked on a number of maintenance schemes on the M4 which have included works to resurface the westbound carriageway and upgrade and strengthen the piers of the Membury Footbridge and Breach Copse, Inholmes and Bayfield accommodation bridges.
The Highways Agency project manager said:
“This is the final phase of this project which overall will provide drivers with an improved road surface, safe bridges and more reliable journey times by reducing the number of delays to drivers due to maintenance over the coming years”.
