Goodbye to the PT Cruiser
Chrysler will end the production of the C-segment PT Cruiser in the summer, Bloomberg.com reports.
The manufacturer is to trim its line-up in order to save money. The retro-styled, PT-Cruiser will be the seventh model cancelled since Cerberus Capital Management LP bought Chrysler in 2007.
Other models dropped include the Chrysler Crossfire sports car, PT Cruiser convertible, and Aspen and Pacifica SUVs.
As part of the conditions applied to a loan given to the company by the US government, the Chrysler must reorganise its operations in order to make it a more sustainable business in difficult trading conditions. U.S. sales of the PT Cruiser plunged 49 per cent last year to 50,910 units, which lead Chrysler President, Tom LaSorda to say that production ‘ends this summer’.
