A21 Sevenoaks noise barrier work set to start

Work to install a new noise barrier around the A21 at Bessels Green in Sevenoaks starts on Sunday 22 March and is expected to be complete by late April.

Following a public exhibition in early March, a new timber noise barrier is being installed near the entry slip road of the A25 Westerham Road leading on to the A21 Sevenoaks Bypass.

The barrier will absorb traffic noise from the road and reduce noise for people living nearby. To further reduce road noise, the slip road will also be resurfaced with a new quieter surface.

While the work is being carried out, there will be an intermittent overnight lane one closure on the southbound carriageway of the A21 around Riverhead overbridge from 8pm to 6am. There will also be up to four overnight closures of the A21 southbound entry slip road at Bessels Green at the start and finish of the work. A 50 mph speed limit will be in place throughout the work.

John Burns, Route Performance Manager for the Highways Agency, said:

“The Highways Agency is committed to understanding and controlling the effect if its activities on the environment. This new barrier will absorb sound from the road and deliver real improvements for people living near the road. We have planned the work carefully to limit delays, and would ask road users to drive with extra care past the work site.”
