ALD Automotive extends partnership with new three-year contract

A wide range of web-based services along with a comprehensive telematics solution have been instrumental in retaining a major fleet until the end of 2011.

ALD Automotive, one of the UK’s largest contract hire and leasing companies with 50,000 vehicles on its fleet, started to supply light commercial vehicles to The Places for People Group in 2005.

An initial three-year contract for the supply of vans and related fleet management services was subsequently extended to include company cars. Now the two organisations have signed a further three-year contract involving 470 vehicles of which almost 400 units are light commercial vehicles.

Signing of the new solus contract hire with maintenance deal follows a comprehensive fleet review that will result in The Places for People Group, one of the largest property management and development companies in the UK, making fleet savings running into thousands of pounds.

The most significant changes see replacement cycles on the company’s solus LCV fleet being extended from three-years/60,000 miles to four-year/70,000 miles. The organisation’s company car fleet operates on a three-year/50,000-mile replacement cycle.
The leasing arrangement means that all LCVs are liveried, racked out and equipped with lighting to the Group’s own specification and meets its ‘fit for purpose’ obligations.

Meanwhile, access to a wide-range of online fleet management reports has greatly assisted fleet efficiency in recent years and significantly reduced the company’s administration burden. Later this year that will also include access to ALD Automotive’s threesixty suite of online fleet management applications.

The enhancements will allow the Group’s fleet policy, as well as driver information, vehicle reallocations and other functionality to be completed online. A quote system will also be set up to mirror the company’s fleet grading so company car drivers only have access to the vehicles within their policies including trade-ups and trade-downs, including any special terms/standard options. The online system also controls the order process through a pre-defined route ensuring it follows the correct approval process and, once vehicles are ordered, drivers see real-time updates on the status of delivery.

The People for Places Group has been a long-time user of ProFleet2, ALD Automotive’s multi-award-winning telematics system that has helped the business to control costs and improve efficiency.

The technology helps the company meet its occupational road risk management obligations, ensures vehicles are serviced on schedule in accordance with manufacturer best practice recommendations and aids journey scheduling by providing comprehensive journey data detailing length of journey, time of travel and miles clocked up.
ALD Automotive Managing director Keith Allen said: “I am delighted that our flexible approach coupled with our range of technology-based fleet solutions has contributed to The Places for People Group extending its business partnership with ALD.

“From initially supplying a new fleet of vans to enable the company to establish its own in-house maintenance operation to improve the repairs and maintenance service to customers, we have gradually taken over responsibility for the whole of the commercial vehicle and car fleet.

“Our success in pro-actively managing costs coupled with bringing a range of added value benefits to The Places for People Group’s fleet operation is therefore further underlined by ALD being awarded this new contract.”
