Outsourcing Fleet Management Brings Benefits To SMEs

Fleet Operations Limited, a leading consultancy, are offering a new service that will be of particular benefit to small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) with non-professional full-time fleet managers who, according to Ross Jackson, managing director, will unlikely to be maximising available fleet cost savings.

A total fleet outsourcing service will now be available from just £10 per month, per vehicle and will have full use of an expert operations team headed by a senior fleet consultant – who will become a company’s fleet manager and in some cases effectively an implant at the business for a day or two a week – Fleet Operations will inject best practice techniques and expertise into an SME as well as financial savings.

Bringing ‘big fleet’ strategy and cost savings to SMEs, Mr Jackson said: “Fleet managers may not directly contribute to companies’ profits, but they will protect the bottom line if they are doing a good job.

“Too many SMEs don’t have in-house fleet expertise available to them that will deliver both improved management control and cost savings. That is why we have launched our specialist SME outsourcing solution.

“We leave SMEs free to concentrate on their core activities and grow their client list, while creating efficient financial control and a high-quality customer service support operation that delivers the professionalism typically associated with full-time fleet managers at major public and private sector organisations.”

Fleet Operations is able to offer best-in-class vehicle and fleet solutions to SMEs at a fraction of the costs seen by large fleets.

Mr Jackson explained: “In relation to vehicle acquisition, many SMEs use, for example, vehicle brokers. However, we are likely to be able to deliver funding savings by using alternative routes and drawing on our marketplace relationships with manufacturers, dealers and leasing companies.

Also, Fleet Operations says its role is protect the interests of fleets and not those of fleet suppliers. As such, its service is transparent and with no “tame”, or favourite suppliers – the company is supplier neutral. So, unlike brokers, Fleet Operations optimises client costs and don’t receive any commission payments – so fleets pay less.

“Equally in terms of a wide range of services we use our knowledge and expertise to deliver cost-effective solutions that are genuinely bespoke to each SME’s requirements,” said Mr Jackson

With Fleet Operations’ experts keeping SMEs up-to-date with numerous issues, such as new legislation and tax rules, and recommending change where appropriate, Mr Jackson said: “After employees, fleet operations are typically the second biggest cost facing most companies.

“However, our evidence suggests that many SMEs’ fleet costs are higher than they should be because they do not have the internal expertise to deliver best practice solutions. But using an experienced fleet manager on an outsourced basis delivers absolute focus on costs and best practice, on a strategic and long-term basis.”
