Weekly roundup of road works in Surrey, Hampshire, South Oxfordshire and South Berkshire 02/06/2009
All of the following work is dependant on suitable weather conditions.
M4 Junction 5 – 7
Daytime and overnight work to renew bridge parapets, safety fences, and waterproofing the bridge decks.
M4 Jct 5 – 6 Police Observation Platform
Maintenance work to the eastbound carriageway of the M4 between junctions 5 and 6, will begin in early June.
Traffic management will involve closure of the eastbound hard shoulder of the M4 between junctions 5 and 6 for the duration of the works.
M3 J3 – J4 Ramp Metering
Work to regulate traffic flows at M3 junctions 3 and 4 on the northbound carriageway continues this week.
Before the system goes live, the lights will be calibrated. This takes approximately six weeks to complete and will take place after the current drainage improvement works are completed in July.
M3 J4-3 Drainage Phase 2
Drainage work continues this week on M3 between J4 and 3, and is scheduled to be completed in July 2009, weather permitting.
There will be contraflow working, with all six lanes of the motorway remaining open on the M3 during the daytime hours. Any lane closures will be undertaken at night. For the safety of drivers and the workforce, a 50mph speed limit will be enforced throughout the works by average speed cameras. There will be free vehicle recovery.
A3 Hindhead
Traffic management for the scheme starts just before the A3 Thursley junction at the north end (nearest to Guildford) with a temporary road layout and 40mph speed limit. At the south end there is a 50mph limit starting south of the A3 Liphook junction, reducing to 40mph at Hammer Lane.
A34 Wolvercote Viaduct
There is a 40mph speed limit in place for two narrow lanes running both northbound and southbound on the A34 enforced by average speed cameras. The speed limit is in place for the protection of road users and road workers.
The A40, which runs under the viaduct, has a 30mph speed limit and will require night time off-peak temporary traffic lights at times. Both cycle/footways are now open following an earlier temporary closure of the north side path. Intermittent short term closures will be required of one of the cycleway/footways through 2009 to continue construction activities.
We ask drivers to take extra care when approaching the works, leave sufficient space from the vehicle in front and note the various roadwork signs and drive to the conditions.
