FTA Guide International Operators

The Freight Transport Association’s () latest annual International Road Transport Guide, provides UK based members with essential information for about the countries of the EU, and those outside it that are most frequently visited by them. The Guide uses country profiles to equip the transport manager with all the information needed to avoid delays and deal effectively with roadside enforcement.

Don Armour, FTA’s International Manager and editor of the Guide, said: “International road transport operators often face confusing sets of local and national regulations that they do not encounter in the UK, including weekend bans, local weight restrictions and city centre bans linked to low emissions.

“What with different processes and penalties for dealing with tachograph and drivers’ hours infringements, roadworthiness issues and inappropriate loading of the vehicle in each country, this Guide should become an indispensable addition to the office.”

The Guide also provides operators with general information, such as ferry routes for planning journeys, guidance on the rules relating to cabotage (domestic freight activity in another state) and advice on Customs procedures and security.

The Guide is complemented by FTA’s Member Advice Centre, which provides legal advice and assistance to members who encounter problems when operating abroad. Also the FTA’s Monthly digest, ensuring international members are kept up-to-speed with any changes affecting HGV operations across the EU. News alerts are also circulated to international carriers where serious disruptions to traffic are anticipated or to update on ongoing problems.
