Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions Reduce Carbon Footprint In One Week!

Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions, in an effort to encourage its staff to think about being more environmentally friendly, have recently celebrated Enviroweek where daily emails to staff gave tips on how they could reduce their carbon footprint and environmental impact by making small changes to their work and home life; with the week rounded off by an alternative transport day that saw many staff sharing lifts to work and people biking and walking instead of driving.

Perhaps the most successful aspect of Enviroweek was the employees use of  video conferencing to save nearly 8,500 miles in non-essential business travel in one week. This would have generated approximately 2038 kilos of carbon emissions, the equivalent of the production of 10,193 plastic bags!

Since Enviroweek, priority parking spaces have been allocated for staff willing to car share and an increase in recycling has also been seen. Staff have become more aware with lights and air conditioning being turned off in meeting rooms and offices when not in use and people are thinking twice before they press ”print”.

Simon Oliphant, Chief Executive, said: “It was great to see everyone get involved with Enviroweek. We had a fantastic response with people offering all sorts of suggestions as to how we can be greener, reduce waste and save money. We look forward to a bigger and better Enviroweek in 2010.”
