ALD Automatic’s ProFleet2 Recovers £700,000 Of Stolen Vehicles

ALD Automotive, the operational leasing and fleet management arm of the Société Générale Group, has experienced major success with it’s ProFleet2 telematics system helping Police recover and return stolen company vehicles worth £700,000 to their rightful and very thankful owners.

Exclusive to ALD, ProFleet2 was the first practical solution launched almost six years ago into the fleet sector with 20,000 vehicles on ’s 50,000-strong fleet now equipped with the multi award-winning system.

The technology primarily provides companies with key management data to improve operating efficiencies, compliance with duty of care best practice and carbon footprint reduction, however, one spin-off benefit has been that the technology has enabled police forces nationwide to so far recover a total of 30 stolen vehicles since the system’s ‘location service’ was launched 18 months ago.

This is because ALD Automotive’s Fleet Services team has been able to immediately activate the locater functionality, with the written permission of the company and driver, delivered through the unit’s SIM card, giving police officers a full detailed description of the vehicle’s movements and general location.

The most recent vehicle to be recovered was a £20,000 Vauxhall Vectra Estate 1.9 CDTi 150 SRi, which was traced and recovered undamaged by West Midlands Police.

Sgt Warren Hayward, of Dudley North Road Policing Unit, West Midlands Police said: “The introduction of more advanced methods of tracking vehicles can only help to deter thieves, bring those responsible to justice and aid the swift recovery of stolen vehicles. I am impressed at how quickly high value vehicles can be recovered with partners working together.”

The most valuable vehicle stolen and subsequently recovered is a £59,000 BMW 630i Convertible 3.0 Sport Auto two-door. Other vehicles stolen include a £31,000 BMW 330d saloon  and a £22,600 Toyota Rav 4 2.2 D-4D XT4 five-door.

1.5 million vehicle-related thefts were recorded in 2007-08 in England and Wales, the most recent year for which figures are available, however, cars and vans fitted with security equipment such as ALD Automotive’s ProFleet2 telematics system are 10 times safer than vehicles without, according to the Home Office’s website

ALD Automotive marketing director David Yates said: “ProFleet2 has established an enviable record in helping police recover stolen cars. Vehicle theft can obviously impact on fleet insurance premiums so companies that lease vehicles from ALD with the system fitted are clearly guarding against such costs raises, which is even more important in the current recession. The technology is therefore both helping to combat vehicle crime as well as keeping vehicle operating costs down and improving efficiency for fleets and their drivers.”

As well as ensuring vehicles are serviced on schedule, ProFleet2 is also proving invaluable in helping drivers’ record accurate business mileage. ProFleet2 continues to evolve and last year saw ALD launched ‘Fleet Manager’ with its reporting suite providing fleet managers with comprehensive journey data for their fleet including exception risk reporting, as well as full journey information, time of travel and miles clocked up.
