A38 Wrangaton to Ivybridge

Information sourced from The Highways Agency.

The 15 year old surface of the westbound carriageway in this location was showing signs of fatigue and required replacement.

The westbound carriageway was resurfaced with low noise material.

The opportunity was also taken to upgrade the safety barrier, improve drainage from the road and upgrade the road signs.

Works commenced on 11 May and were completed in July 2009.

In order to ensure the safety of both road users and the workforce, the works were carried out overnight under a contraflow system, with westbound traffic diverted on to the eastbound carriageway.

The contraflow was removed each morning, but the cones remained in place and traffic had to remain in lane.

The laybys were closed on a temporary basis during the course of the project.

There was a speed restriction of 50mph through the works for the duration of the contract, and this was enforced with the use of average speed cameras.

Work started on 11 May and was completed 21 July.
