Volkswagen Golf Plus BlueMotion ready to roll

The latest “” model from the German carmaker is ready to hit the UK – the VW Golf Plus BlueMotion offers the same practicality and comfort that the standard Golf Plus provides but with improved fuel efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions.

At the heart of the new variant is Volkswagen latest, frugal 1.6-litre common rail TDI 105 PS, as seen in the Standard VW Golf BlueMotion, which in collaboration with several other BlueMotion modifications means the car can achieve 65.7mpg on the combined cycle, while emitting just 114g/km of CO2 – this provides a significant efficiency improvement over the previous generation Golf Plus BlueMotion.

The new Golf Plus BlueMotion’s CO2 emissions figure of 114 g/km allows it to break the 121 g/km threshold, saving fleet drivers up to £1,000 in Benefit in Kind tax over a three year period.  The car’s economy statistics mean, in real terms, that a Golf Plus BlueMotion owner could take a trip from London to the Lake District, enjoy 200 miles-worth of day trips while there, and return to London before having to refuel.  Put another way, a buyer covering under 8,000 miles a year – which is typical of more than a half of Golf Plus customers – need only fill up with fuel once every five weeks.

The engineers at Volkswagen have included a wide ranging number of features to achieve these impressive statistics, these include revised gear ratios in third, fourth and fifth, the addidition of low rolling resistance tyres, a Start/Stop function and regenerative braking. Regenerative braking helps to utilise energy that would otherwise be lost during braking, so that in deceleration and braking phases the alternator’s voltage is boosted and used for bulk recharging of the car’s battery.

Available in a choice of two trim levels – the S and SE – with standard features in keeping with trims seen on standard models.
