Maintenance work on the A14 Claydon Interchange, near Ipswich
Works to the westbound carriageway of the A14 Claydon Interchange, near Ipswich, begin on 1 September.
The Highways Agency is planning to complete the repairs to the bridge of the Interchange, its drainage, waterproofing and resurfacing of the carriageways on 29 September, weather permitting.
Overnight work will be from Mondays to Sundays between 20:00 and 06:00 and there will be daytime work, between 06:00 and 20:00, on three successive Sundays from 6 September.
The work will affect just over 3 miles (5km) of the westbound carriageway between the Claydon Interchange, at A14 junction 52, and the Whitehouse Interchange, at the A1156, Bury Road, in Ipswich. The Claydon Interchange westbound entry and exit slip roads will also be affected.
During overnight work, the westbound carriageway will be closed. A14 westbound traffic will be diverted down Claydon Interchange’s exit slip road, around the roundabout and then return up Interchange’s entry slip road.
At the same time, the southbound B1113, under the Interchange, will also be closed and traffic will be diverted east onto the A14 to the Whitehouse Interchange to then return west on the A14 to the Claydon interchange.
During the daytime work on Sunday, there will be a single lane closure of the A14 westbound between the Claydon and Whitehouse interchanges.
When the work is ongoing, there will be a 50 mph speed limit on the westbound carriageway and cones and traffic signs will be used.
Project manager for the Highways Agency, Rob Barron said: “The work will repair normal wear and tear and will ensure that the bridge’s structure is of a good standard and that it performs well.
“We believe that the repairs will lead to some disruption to local residents and road users. Doing repairs now will also mean that there won’t be more disruption for road users and local people in the future because we would have to do more substantial repairs.”
