Overnight resurfacing work – M1, Hertfordshire

Overnight resurfacing work on the M1 between junctions 5 and 6 will be carried out from tonight – 1 September, lasting for six nights.

The work will take place when traffic flows are at their lowest, between 10.00pm – 5.30am or 11.00pm – 7.00am on Friday.

There will be closures at junctions 5 and 6 as follows:

  • The junction 6 southbound entry and exit slips will be closed every night from 1 September to Saturday 5 September.  Road users will be diverted to junction 5 and back.
  • The junction 5 northbound entry slip will be closed on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September.  Drivers will be diverted up to junction 6 and back.

All diversions will be fully signposted.

Highways Agency Project Manager Arvind Patel said:

“The surface on this stretch of the M1 has reached the end of its serviceable life and needs to be replaced to improve skid resistance.

“We advise drivers to plan their journey by checking traffic conditions on www.highways.gov.uk before they set off and to allow extra time for their journey.”
