Overnight closures on M62 in West Yorkshire for gantry installation
The Highways Agency is advising road users that the M62 in West Yorkshire will be fully closed for two nights in September to allow four new overhead sign gantries to be installed. The new gantries are part of an ongoing programme of safety improvements on this stretch of the M62.
The motorway will be closed in both directions between Junction 29 (Lofthouse) and Junction 30 (Rothwell) overnight on Saturday 12 September and Saturday 19 September. Both closures take place between 10pm and 5.30am. Clearly-signed diversions will be in place.
Eastbound traffic will be diverted off the motorway at Junction 29 and will follow the M1, A639 and A642 before re-joining the M62 at Junction 30. Westbound traffic will follow the same route in reverse.
The work includes replacing the existing steel central reservation barrier with a new concrete barrier over a three-mile (5km) stretch of the M62, plus drainage improvement works and hard shoulder resurfacing.
The first phase of the programme – accelerated for delivery under the Department for Transport’s £700 million fiscal stimulus package – started in June.
Highways Agency project manager Sujad Hussain said:
“We are carrying out this work overnight when traffic flows are lower, but we would nevertheless advise drivers to plan ahead and allow plenty of extra time for their journeys.”
