Freight Facilities Grants – A Concrete Solution

The Freight Best Practice programme has published a new free Case Study entitled ‘Freight Facilities Grants – A Concrete Solution’ which highlights the experiences of London Concrete who have successfully implemented a modal switch within their supply chain from road to rail and examines, amongst other things, the environmental savings that followed.

The modal switch was achieved with the assistance of a Freight Facilities Grant for the development of a rail offloading and storage facility in North London. This investment will save over 18 million road kilometres over a 10 year period preventing around 12,000 tonnes of CO2 being produced.

Freight Facilities Grants are offered by the Department for Transport (DfT) to encourage businesses to move freight from road to rail or water.  The costs of infrastructure required can sometimes prevent operators even considering modal shift options.  Freight Facility Grants provide cash incentives for new rail or water based handling facilities to any business within Great Britain.

The ‘Freight Facilities Grants – A Concrete Solution’ Case Study is completely free as are all publications, and can be obtained by visiting www.freightbestpractice.org.uk.
