Surfacing and maintenance works continue on A1 in North Yorkshire

Essential surfacing and maintenance works to prolong the life of the between Dishforth (Junction 49) and Scotch Corner are taking place in North Yorkshire. The work includes resurfacing and patching the carriageway and renewing road studs and white lines.

These works are being carried out in five phases and are taking place overnight to minimise the impact on road users. Phases one and two of the works between Catterick North and Catterick South interchanges and Catterick South Interchange and Kirkby Fleetham have already been completed.

Phase three will start on Friday 20 November and will be completed by Monday 23 November. Work will be carried out at night between 8pm and 6am and it will be necessary to close the northbound carriageway from Leeming Bar to Catterick. Traffic wishing to travel northbound will be diverted via A168/A19/A689. A local diversion via the A684/A167/A66(M) will also be in place.

Phase four will start on Friday 27 November and will be completed by Monday 30 November. Work will be carried out at night between 8pm and 6am and it will be necessary to close the southbound carriageway between Catterick and Leeming Bar. Traffic wishing to travel southbound will be diverted via A689/A19/A168. A local diversion via the A1/A66(M)/A167/A684 will also be available.

Phase five will start on Friday 4 December and will be completed by Monday 7 December. This work is essential to keep this section of the A1 in a safe condition until the works to upgrade this stretch of the A1 have been completed. Work will be carried out at night between 8pm and 6am and it will be necessary to close the southbound carriageway between Leeming Bar and Dishforth. Traffic wishing to travel southbound will be diverted via A689/A19/A168. A local diversion via the A684/A168/A19 will also be in place.

Project manager for the Highways Agency, John Tasker, said:

“This is essential work will improved road safety and prolong the life of the carriageway on a busy section of the A1 in North Yorkshire. We have programmed the works to take place over night in order to minimise any disruption to road users. We would ask all road users to take extra care through the roadworks and when travelling along the diversion routes.”
