ALD Automotive staff aid cancer charity

Employees at the Northampton and Milton Keynes’ offices of contract hire and leasing company ALD Automotive have raised £1,335 for The Sarcoma Trust.

A team of 16 employees raised £1,280 with a sponsored climb of Helvellyn in the Lake District, which at 950 metres (3,117 feet) is England’s third highest peak. Further money was raised from an office cake and bake stall.

Peter Jay, chairman of the board of trustees of The Sarcoma Trust, receive the cheque from (left to right) Mia Hemmings, Carrie Trezona and Mia’s sons Joe and Luke.

The events were held in memory of Tim Hemmings, the husband of former ALD Automotive personnel department employee Mia Hemmings. He died from sarcoma, a type of malignant tumour of the bone, cartilage, fat, muscle, blood vessels or other connective or supportive tissue.

Sarcoma is one of the four major types of cancer and The Sarcoma Trust, which is based in Shropshire, aims to promote and support research, provide education and awareness of the condition.

ALD Automotive customer service executive Carrie Trezona, who is based at the Northampton office and with customer sales team leaders Chris Rowe and Rob Page organised the climb, said: “We wanted to honour Tim’s life and raise some money in his memory so hit upon the idea of climbing Helvellyn. Last year Chris, Rob and some of their colleagues climbed Helvellyn when they took part in the Four Peaks Challenge and they wanted to return to the summit. We all got to the top and it was a fantastic day in aid of very worthy cause.”
