‘Netbusters’ Arval Back Brake

Arval, Europe’s leading fleet and fuel management company, are getting their employees fully involved in National Road Safety Week 2009 ‘Not a Drag, Not a Drop’, to raise awareness of the dangers faced on today’s roads.

The week will include the chance for Arval employees to test the latest “Collision Avoidance” technology from Volvo as well as enter a Highway Code quiz and have their tyres checked with all the money raised going to national road safety charity Brake.

The major fundraising drive is through a non-stop, six-hour netball shooting challenge on November 24. Two Arval teams of 12 (one male and one female) will line up alongside each other to see which has the skill and stamina to score the most goals during the challenge. Participants have paired off to take an hour slot in the relay-style event. Kicking off at 9am, everyone will shoot non-stop for half an hour while their partner collects and returns stray balls. Employees at Arval have been keenly sponsoring the challenge for Brake’s National Road Safety Week.

Tracey Young, Fleet Manager at Arval and captain of the women’s team comments: “Brake is a fantastic charity that we have worked closely with for some time so we are delighted to be able to raise money to support them. We wanted to come up with a way of fundraising that is fun for both participants and spectators and we have had a fantastic response from Arval employees.”

Roz Cumming from Brake comments: “Our role is to prevent death and injury on the UK’s roads through education, and to care for people bereaved or affected by a road crash. Every day seven people are killed and nearly ten times as many are seriously injured on our roads and we rely on fundraisers like Arval to reduce these figures.”

Roz adds, “The theme for Road Safety Week this year is “Not a Drag, Not a Drop”, focussing on informing drivers about the risk and realities of drink and drug driving. Arval is providing practical information and raising awareness while at the same time having some fun. We have worked in partnership with Arval for some time now and are delighted with their ongoing contribution to our campaign”.
