Epyx Report 20% E-Commerce Increase For 09

epyx, the e-commerce specialist, has reported a 20 per cent year on year increase in the number of fleet maintenance e-commerce transactions during 2009, using its 1link Service Network fleet maintenance e-commerce platform to track these increases.

The 1link Service Network fleet maintenance e-commerce platform is used by fleets totalling more than two million company cars and vans buying services from 13,000 franchise dealers, independent garages and fast fits.

Ken Trinder, head of business development at , said that the reasons behind the increase were largely linked to the way that fleets had responded to the recession.

He explained: “As has been widely reported, many fleets have been keeping cars and vans for longer and this has had a direct impact on each vehicle’s maintenance profile.

“If a company is hanging onto a vehicle into the fourth or even fifth year of its life then inevitably there are implications in terms of wear parts and even major component failure compared to a newer car or van. Each of these generates a new transaction.”

Trinder said that epyx expected volumes of maintenance transactions through 1link Service Network to remain high into 2010 and probably beyond.

He explained: “While the economy has stabilised, the climb out of recession will be a long one and we do not expect to see a widespread return to shorter fleet replacement cycles.”

Trinder added that there had also been factors other than the recession that had helped to push up the number of transactions seen through 1link Service Network.

He said: “For example, the cold snap of early January seemed to cause widespread mechanical problems and we saw a dramatic increase in transactions at that time.”
