Cheshire M6 £2m Resurfacing Scheme

A £2m Highways Agency scheme to resurface a stretch of the M6 in Cheshire got underway this week.

Work on the project, which is expected to be completed by February, started last night (Monday, December 14) and also includes the installation of a new safety barrier in the hard shoulder verge.

Lane one of the motorway will be resurfaced along a three mile stretch of the southbound carriageway between Junction 18 and 17, Holmes Chapel and Sandbach.

Work will be taking place off-peak between 10pm and 5am each night and there will be minimal impact on motorway users.

Around 65,000 vehicles use the route each day.

Highways Agency Project Sponsor Barry Heaps said, “By resurfacing the carriageway and installing a new verge safety barrier this scheme will improve the experience for motorway users and improve safety.

“We have worked hard to ensure that drivers will not be inconvenienced by the work.  By making sure work is done overnight and deploying limited traffic management through the works, any inconvenience to drivers should be minimal.”
