Highways Agency to make safety improvements to A500 (Etruria to Porthill) in Stoke on Trent
The Highways Agency will begin works on a short section of the A500 near Stoke-on-Trent on 4 January 2010 and work is expected to take 25 weeks to complete.
The works will include carriageway resurfacing, renewal of road markings, new lighting columns and the existing central reservation barrier will be replaced.
Works will take place overnight on a 2 mile stretch of the A500 between the junctions of Etruria (A53) and Porthill (A5271) in both directions.
When the work is taking place there will be a 50 mph speed limit in operation. For the safety of the workforce, when the central reservation works are being undertaken this will reduce to 40 mph. To facilitate the works, there will be some overnight road closures required – a clearly signed diversion route will be in place.
Jess Kenny, Highways Agency project sponsor, said;
“The Highways Agency is committed to minimising delays when carrying out road improvements and this scheme will improve safety on the route due to the new surface, lighting and central reservation.
“Drivers are reminded to take extra care through road works and to observe the temporary speed limits in place. Temporary road signs will notify motorists of how to proceed through the works.”
