Weekly Summary of Roadworks in Kent and Sussex – 04/01/2010

A traffic management summary for both new and ongoing work

All of the following work is dependant on suitable weather conditions.

A21 Pembury Bypass Exit Slip Widening Work Work continues to widen the A21 London bound exit slip road for the A264 / A228. There remains a 24 hour narrowed lane on the A21 London bound exit slip road for A264 / A228 with temporary 50mph speed limit on approach to the exit slip road and a 50mph speed limit on the A21 London bound entry slip road from A228 Pembury Road.

A20 Roundhill Tunnel Service Building New Access Road Work continues to build a new access road to the main service building for Roundhill Tunnel on the A20 near Folkestone in . The London-bound entry slip road at the junction remains closed with a fully signed diversion route in place, until Christmas 2009.  Work will continue in the New Year on the access road itself away from the main carriageway until final completion in February 2010.

A2 Kingston Footbridge
Preparation works for a new bridleway bridge allowing a safe way of crossing the A2 near Canterbury started early November and the bridge will be ready for use by February 2010.
The new bridge will be at Kingston, halfway between Black Robin Lane and Out Elmstead Lane and will provide a safe place for pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders and wheelchair users to get over the A2.
For the safety of road users and road workers, there will be a 24-hour single lane closure and temporary 50mph speed limit in both directions for the duration of the work for foundations for the bridge to be put in place. For the installation of the bridge itself, there will be up to three Saturday night closures of the A2 from the junction with Coldharbour Lane to the junction with the A260 Canterbury Road.

M23 Home Farm Parapet Replacement
There will be a 24 hour hard shoulder closure of the northbound  M23 from Monday 7 December until 5 January .  There will also be an overnight (8pm – 6am) lane one and two closures with lane three running to install and remove temporary barrier for the first and last night of the works.  The works are to replace the parapets and safety barrier on the northbound carriageway of the M23 at Home Farm Underbridge in Surrey.  The lane closures and hardshoulder closure will be fully signed in advance.

M23 Perrylands Lane Parapet Replacement
There will be a 24 hour hard shoulder closure of the northbound and southbound M23 from Monday 07 December for until 8 January . There will also be an overnight (8pm – 6am) lane one closure on the northbound and southbound carriageway on the first and last night of the works, the works are to replace the parapets and safety barrier on the northbound carriageway of the M23 at. Perrylands Lane Underbridge in Surrey.  The lane closures and hardshoulder closure will be fully signed in advance.

A27 Worthing to Brighton Street Lighting There will be overnight (8pm – 6am) narrow lanes with a mobile lane closure on one carriageway at a time at two locations on the A27 at Pad, Hangleton Junction, Devils Dyke Interchange and Patcham Interchange from Friday 11 December to Tuesday 12 January.  The works are to replace the current lighting units and traffic bollards for more efficient ones.  The narrow lanes and mobile lane closure will be fully signed in advance.

A27 Polegate Bypass safety work
The second phase of works continue from Monday 4 January to relocate the existing Puffin Crossing 120 metres south of the roundabout as well as a removal of the traffic lights on the roundabout.  During this time there will be lane closures, traffic management and a 40mph speed limit on the roundabout and Polegate Bypass.  The lane closures and temporary speed limit will be fully signed in advance.

A2 Boughton Hill Fog Detectors
There will be an overnight (8pm – 6am) single lane closure on either the Londonbound or coastbound carriageway of the A2 at Boughton Hill, Monday to Friday from Monday 4 January to Saturday 30 January,  Works are to install new fog detectors and advance warning signs on the A2 at Boughton Hill near Canterbury, Kent. These fog detectors will sense moisture in the air, which will then trigger a fog sign to flash up. This will alert drivers to the poor visibility on the road ahead.  The lane closure will be fully signed in advance.

A20 Maintenance Pull – Off Points
There will be various overnight (8pm – 6am) lane closures on the coastbound and London bound carriageway of the A20 between Roundhill Tunnel and Dover from Monday 4 January to Saturday 30 January.  The works are being carried out to provide permanent areas for maintenance vehicles to park off the main carriageway.  This will improve safety road users and members of the workforce as maintenance vehicles will be out of the way of the main flow of traffic. The lane closures will be fully signed in advance.
