A27: Mill Hill Bridge, Shoreham-by-Sea: parapet replacement

Improvements to a footbridge over the in West Sussex are to be made throughout January and February.

The Highways Agency is to raise the parapets on the Mill Hill bridge at Shoreham-by-Sea from one to 1.8 metres high. Anti-access panels will also be installed to the back of the parapet at the ends of the bridge.

Work is due to start on Tuesday 19 January, lasting for six weeks.
Road users on the A27 will not be affected by the work, but Mill Hill bridge itself will have one lane closed at a time and two-way temporary traffic lights while the work is taking place.

Temporary lighting will also be used to illuminate the work site during the hours of darkness and when there is poor visibility.

Peter Phillips, Highways Agency Route Performance Manager for West Sussex, said:

“Although the bridge carries a local authority road over the A27, its maintenance is the responsibility of the Highways Agency. This work will involve increasing height of the safety barrier.”
