Hailsham Road Embankment Maintenance Near A27 Polegate, East Sussex
Work to stabilise an embankment near the A27 Cophall Roundabout at Polegate in East Sussex starts on Monday 18 January for six weeks.
For the safety of road users, a northbound lane closure of the Hailsham Road, near to the Cophall Roundabout and adjacent to the site, will be required. The Highways Agency has agreed with East Sussex County Council that a one-way system from Cophall roundabout will best maintain traffic flows.
The northbound carriageway of Hailsham Road (B2247) will be closed between Sayerland Road and the Cophall roundabout. Traffic will be southbound only through the works. Northbound traffic will be diverted from Sayerland Road southbound on Hailsham Road, Station Road, Pevensey Road and Dittons Road (B2247) to Golden Jubilee Way. At the roundabout, traffic for the A27 will be diverted left at the first exit to the second roundabout to join the westbound A27.
This one-way system will be in place 24 hours a day for the duration of the work.
Martin Wright, Highways Agency Route Performance Manager for East Sussex, said:
“This geotechnical work will ensure that the embankment will continue to act as a screen for local residents. The slopes will be re-planted when the work is complete.
“The one-way system will be in place for the duration of the work, for the safety of road users, whilst the maintenance is being carried out.”
