Resurfacing scheme for the A46 at Groby near Leicester

A scheme to resurface a section of the at Groby near Leicester involving one weekend and midweek overnight closures midweek will take place between Friday, 22 January and Thursday, 4 February.

The resurfacing scheme is located on the southbound carriageway between the end of the A46/A563 entry slip road and will continue to the start of the exit slip road for the M1 Junction 21a.  The new surface will prolong the life of the road and reduce road noise.

Work will commence with a weekend closure which will start at 8pm on Friday, 22 January, and be lifted by 6am on Monday, 25 January.  There will then be overnight closures between the hours of 8pm and 6am starting on Monday, 25 January until Thursday, 4 February (Monday to Friday only).

Highways Agency project manager Mark Braithwaite said:

“We are carrying out a resurfacing scheme on the Leicester Western Bypass to provide a safer, smoother and quieter road surface for road users in Leicestershire.

“The majority of the work will take place during the night to minimise inconvenience to motorists, but some work needs to take place during the day, therefore there will be a weekend closure to allow this. Although we expect delays to be low, road users should plan their journey before setting off and check for any congestion using local radio travel reports, our Traffic Radio DAB service or the Highways Agency website.”
