Lombard will be targeting the Public Sector in 2010 and has started the year by strengthening its Public Sector sales team, which now numbers around two dozen personnel, and integrating it into its Strategic Accounts operations, which was set up last year to service major customers with larger fleets demanding bespoke or complex solutions.
The northern half of the country is covered by new recruit Rory MacKinnon. He has been with Lombard since 2003 on its Fast Track programme, working in a variety of roles from customer services to finance.
The southern half of the country is covered by Emma Darby, who has been in Lombard’s Public Sector team for two years. She has been with Lombard for eight years, managing teams in customer service, customer retention and growth, and broker sales. She worked in the Public Sector prior to joining Lombard.
Both will report to Development Director Peter Butler, who joined the Strategic Accounts Team last year and now assumes overall responsibility for Public Sector operations. He has over 20 years’ experience with car manufacturers in both the UK and Europe, latterly overseeing the introduction of customer-focused business improvement programmes for both VW and Toyota.
“Customers in the Public Sector have told us that they are now looking for partners who can provide expertise and solutions for their vehicle fleets as well as finance and contract hire,” Butler says. “In many cases those who are responsible for vehicle fleets in the sector have not received training as fleet managers, yet they are expected to run large numbers of vehicles and satisfy increasingly complex requirements. Most notably these include issues around grey fleets, reducing carbon emissions and now cost-cutting pressures.
“By combining the backing of RBS and the wider Lombard group with our specialist experience in supporting large, blue-chip fleets through Strategic Accounts and now the dedicated Public Sector sales team, we strongly believe that we can deliver effective solutions to Public Sector customers that could also save them money.”
Lombard’s Strategic Accounts team’s major corporate customers include British Gas, BSkyB, IKEA, St Gobain and the AA.
