Navman Wireless spells fleet optimisation

Navman Wireless has recently been employed by courier and haulage specialist Sprintshift and the results have been dramatic; reduced overtime and increased backloads for this company, which before had relied completely on a timesheet-based administration system.

“Vehicle tracking from has enabled us to reduce timesheet errors and false entries, time wastage between routes and increase fleet optimisation,” said Justin Hayes, Sprintshift Transport Manager.

“Our drivers finish their working days at different times and some will often not return to the office until 6.30pm, when all office-based staff have gone.

“Consequently, they can claim to have finished at 7.30pm and gain an extra hour. Now I can check these times against vehicles movements.

“We can also monitor their vehicles’ movements for the entire working day and can see if they have parked up for longer than they should. If drivers haven’t got valid reasons for stopping for protracted periods of time, we then cut costs by deducting this from their wages.”

In addition, Sprintshift, which has a fleet in excess of 25 vehicles, has witnessed a dramatic drop in time wasted by using Navman Wireless’s OnlineAVL2 tracking software, which ensures its drivers take the routes the company requests and allows the office to contact a driver and make adjustments should he take an excessively long route. It is now also easier for the company to establish backloads allowing the firm to make money on what would otherwise be an empty journey.

“A customer may phone us from, say, London asking for transport to go back up to Manchester. We are then able to look at the tracking software, type in the address and find the closest van to the customer,” Justin added.

“Navman Wireless has helped us strengthen our position in the market and helped us ready the company for future growth.”
