Energy-Saving Lighting Introduced on A27 Between Lewes and Polegate, East Sussex

Improved lighting for road users on part of the and a reduction in energy usage and costs will be a result of work to upgrade the lighting on 28 signs, 33 street lights and 31 traffic bollards on the road between Lewes to Polegate in East Sussex.

The Highways Agency will make the improvements for one week from today Monday 15 February and then from Monday 1 March for another week. The work will take place at various locations along the A27 overnight between 8pm and 6am.

Martin Wright, Highways Agency Route Manager for East Sussex, said:

“Upgrading the lighting along the A27 between Lewes and Polegate in East Sussex will provide better signage for drivers. Doing the work now will reduce maintenance needs over time. This work is part of a lighting upgrade for certain roads in Sussex including the A27 between Chichester and Arundel and the A259 between Pevensey and Winchelsea.”

To carry out this work and for the safety of road users, narrow lanes will be put in place as well as some lane closures. At some locations, a short diversion route will need to be followed during the work.
Starting on 15 February, lighting will be improved at the Falmer interchange, and the Ashcombe and Berwick roundabouts.

From 1 March, the improvements will take place at the Polegate bypass junction and the roundabouts at Cophall the Pevensey bypass and Pevensey Haven.
