Overnight closures on A45 roundabout at M1 Junction 15 near Northampton
Improvement works on the A45 roundabout at junction 15 of the M1 will start on Friday 19 February and continue overnight for two weekends.
The work will resurface the carriageway, replace the road markings and reinstate the cable loops in the road surface. A high friction surface will also be added to improve safety for road users.
To allow the work, all three lanes of the roundabout will be shut overnight in two sections, over two weekends. The work will also affect access to the M1, with planned related closures of the junction slip roads as work takes place on the northern and southern sides of the roundabout.
Hours of work will be 10pm on Friday to 8am on Saturday morning, 8pm on Saturday night to 9am on Sunday morning and 10pm on Sunday night to 5am on Monday morning.
While the work takes place, the slip roads to either the north half or south half of the roundabout will also be closed, depending on which section of the roundabout is being resurfaced. The northern half will be completed during the first weekend, starting on Friday 19 February.
Highways Agency project manager Mark Braithwaite said:
“We’re carrying out this work to provide an improved road surface for all road users. The work is taking place overnight, during the weekend, when traffic flows are at their lightest to minimise delays for traffic.”
While sections of the roundabout and slip roads are closed, there will be a clearly signed diversion route.

Between now and the end of March there will be a significant increase in roadworks in the East Midlands, as we invest in maintaining and improving the region’s motorways and major A roads. We will do as much work as we can overnight (generally between 10pm and 6am) when traffic flows are at a minimum, but some work has to take place during the day for safety reasons. We will minimise delays by keeping as many lanes open as possible while the work takes place.
