Highways Agency to reduce flood risk by improving drainage on A45 near Rugby
The Highways Agency will begin replacement drainage works on the A45 between Fosse-Way Island and Thurlaston next week, to reduce the risk of flooding on the route.
The two miles of works are due to start on 1 March and are expected to take four weeks to complete. Work will be carried out off-peak between 09:30 and 15:30 to reduce the impact on motorists during busy periods.
The work will require a lane one closure when work is being carried out on the verge and a lane two closure when work is being carried out in the central reservation. The closures will be clearly signposted on the approach to the works.
Highways Agency project manager John Steele said:
“These works to replace the filter drain system will reduce the risk of any future flooding on the A45 near Rugby.
“Following a period of heavy rain, surface water can cause motorists to skid, so improving the drainage will improve safety of the route for road-users.
“Work is being carried out during the day at off-peak periods to reduce the impact of the works on people using the A45 on a daily basis.”
