Budget response from Ian Simpson, The Warranty Group

Ian Simpson, sales and marketing director, , said:

“The Government does appear to be making some overtures towards the motorist and the motor industry – in the form of the staggering of fuel duty, the pothole repair programme and the encouragement of electric vehicles such as the new Nissan Leaf. However, while welcome, none of these measures will help dealers to sell new and used cars or increase aftersales activity during 2010. There are no new incentives to replace the scrappage scheme and dealers are now very much left in a position where their results they achieve during the rest of this year will very much be as a result of their own efforts. However, it is worth remembering that it was as recently as a year ago that the economy was threatening to go into freefall and that moment has passed. While times remain very tough, the economy is not worsening and profits are still a very real possibility for dealers that make the most of the opportunities that come their way.”
